This Integrated Community is one of four Seniors Living developments across regional SE Queensland that MCD Australia have undertaken on behalf of Churches of Christ in Queensland over five years. The Boonah campus incorporated the existing Fassifern Retirement Village with this new Stage One 64-bedroom Residential Aged Care facility, 14 of which are larger Premium bedrooms, all orientated to take in views overlooking the lake and down through the valley toward the Scenic Rim ranges.
The site had languished for many years due to the high build costs associated with the poor soil structure and lack of scope definition. A review of learnings from the past three projects, and revisiting the market and internal operational requirements, produced a reduced GFA that maintained the design philosophies and quality of previous projects. An additional challenge for this site was the infill of a large dam, on which the facility was sited, and the construction of a new lake that channeled overland flow paths.
MCD Australia managed the project delivery from concept to completion, completing the facility in April 2020, two months ahead of schedule and $500K under budget.
